1. DFO Micro Budget Funding programme

The DFO is currently assessing submissions made for the Micro-Budget film programme for 2016. This Programme aims to support local emerging filmmakers and encourage the production of content in order to stimulate the local film industry and seeks to develop low budget film-making that is cost-effective, practical and commercially viable.

The Micro-budget Film Programme offers R150, 000.00 for production of a feature length film and specifically targets fiction feature projects. Running over 12 months the programme produces 5 micro budget films per year.

The call out for the next tranche will be done in July 2017.

2.  DFO Development Fund Programme

The DFO is also in the process of evaluating the Durban Film Office Development Fund Programme submissions. This programme aims to support intermediate and experienced producers based in Durban who need to develop feature fiction or documentary projects for the local and / or international market. The programme provides grant funding for two Durban film projects per annum, to a maximum of R250, 000.00 per project towards the development of the project.

The Durban Film Office Development Fund will consider funding the following costs: writer’s fees, script editors, research fees, payments to acquire and option rights to adapt works for the screen, producer’s fees and reasonable overheads for the producer, reasonable legal costs, script readings with cast, developing a presentation package for potential partners, developing budgets and/or schedules and training courses to aid project development.

The call out for the next tranche will also be done in July 2017.

3. SCOUT Location  Development Programme – 2017

The Durban Film Office (DFO), the film industry development arm of the eThekwini Municipality will be making a call out to aspiring location scouts, to apply for its third SCOUT Location Development Programme in July 2017 – watch this space!
