DURBAN BEACH RESCUE GETS A SECOND SEASON

Durban based TV show Durban Beach Rescue is due to start production on season 2. Season 1 of the original documentary series aired on Travel Channel in 113 countries and 23 languages around the world and won the prestigious Maritime Award for Excellence in Media.

Set in the beach city of Durban during the December holiday season, Durban Beach Rescue follows the day-to-day experiences of the courageous lifeguards who risk their lives to keep three million holidaymakers safe.  With unpredictable conditions, overcrowded beaches, the threat of sharks and soaring temperatures, the lifeguards not only save lives but have zero tolerance for anyone who tries to break the rules.

The series premiered on Travel Channel in Africa, UK, Europe and the Middle East in July last year and has aired with impressive ratings on SABC 3, where it was the channel's third most popular show over the December period. It was also screened on The Africa Channel on the USA and the Caribbean.

Show creators Bronwyn Berry and Eddie Edwards are thrilled that Travel Channel International has come onboard for a second season, ‘We're delighted that these stories and characters appeal to local and international audiences. There are a lot of heroes on TV but these lifeguards -men and women- are the real deal.’ Season 2 is going to focus on the heroic characters, the beautiful beaches of Durban and Umhlanga and of course, all the action of the festive season. ’
